What is a single row ball bearing?

The ball bearing is a mechanical system that enables rotation between a rotating and a fixed element. The single-row ball bearing consists mainly of two rings, a cage and several balls in a single row. In fact, this bearing has an inner ring, an outer ring and the cage that holds the balls in position relative to each other.

What are the different types of single row ball bearings?

Today, there are a multitude of ball bearings available. They can be single- or double-row, radial contact or angular contact. Single-row radial contact ball bearings (also known as deep groove ball bearings) are the most commonly used, as they offer the best value for money.

As for single-row angular contact ball bearings, they retain the same advantages, but can support a higher axial load.

Whichever type of bearing you choose, it can be either open or sealed, depending on your requirements. Unsealed steel ball bearings can withstand temperatures of up to 120°. Standard 2RS models, on the other hand, can withstand temperatures of up to 80°. The advantage of using sealed bearings is that they are lubricated for life and require no special maintenance.

How to choose the right single-row ball bearing?

How to read the ball bearing part number?

RS, 2RS, 2RSH, 2RS1, RSR, 2RSR, E, EE, LLU, LLB, DU, DDU

These suffixes mean "with 1 or 2 rubber seals". This seal protects the bearings from splashing water. At 123Bearing, we use the number "2" to indicate that the bearing is sealed on both sides.

ZZ, 2Z, ZR, Z

These suffixes mean "with 1 or 2 sheet metal deflectors", for dust-tightness. At 123Bearing, we specify whether bearings are sealed on 2 sides with "ZZ".

C3, C4

Means "increased internal clearance". Often referred to as high-speed, this means that the bearing is designed for high speeds and moderately high temperatures. CAUTION: a bearing with increased internal clearance will not operate optimally at low speeds. TN9, TVH, TVP, G15, FG

These suffixes indicate that the cage (the part of the bearing that holds the balls apart) is made of a polymer material. Usually made of glass-fiber-reinforced polyamide.

ABEC

The ABEC standard is used to classify bearings according to their machining tolerance. This standard is regularly called into question because it does not include certain technologies that are important for guaranteeing correct operation, both in terms of efficiency and bearing life. 123Bearing therefore makes little use of this standard.
